Chapter Name Change
As you are aware a motion was made by Paul Cassel VE3SY following the passing of Fred Hammond , that Chapter 73 be re-named the Fred Hammond Chapter. Members were sent a mail-in ballot to vote on this motion. Of the 129 ballots mailed, 100 were returned by Jan 15. All votes were in favour of the change.

There were several comments that we should retain Chapter 73 in our name. We will always be known as Chapter 73, because Chapters are assigned numbers on the basis of their charter date. Chapter 73 was the 73rd chapter to be chartered on May 17,1974. This number is retained even if the name is changed or the chapter becomes inactive.

Hammond Museum of Radio
Fred Hammond was always front and centre in our Chapter 73, and front and centre in Fred's life was his Museum of Radio. We are all thankful that this is being carried on by his family and company, in a new, improved facility even more suitable for public access.

The museum needs some help and Ch 73 could use a meaningful project, so your executive came up with a proposition to address both aspects.
Under present arrangements, the Museum is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with staffing from within the Company. Group tours will be organized by special arrangements.

Their desire is to be open to the general public, one day during the weekend from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. At this point, they believe Saturday would be best.

A message was sent to all those members with e-mail, requesting responses from those interested in helping to staff the Museum. A committee is being formed from those responses.

For those who would like to help and did not receive an e-mail, please reply to the Sec/Treas. A further aim is to have VE3HC on the air from the Museum, as much as possible, during these weekend periods, so it won't be all work.
